RESOLUTION ESTABLISHING AN AD HOC COMMITTEE
FOR A LAKEVIL,LE COMMUNITY CENTER
WHEREAS, the City has acquired property centrally located within the geographic
boundaries of Lakeville along established county roads (minor arterials). providing convenient
access to all residential areas; and
WHEREAS, appropriate sewer and water service is in close proximity to the proposed
site keeping costs reasonable; and
WHEREAS, the City is considering apublic/private partnership for a community center;
and
. WHEREAS, Lakeville citizens are supportive and desirous of constructing a community
center and accept the notion of a private/public joint venture to achieve a community vision;. and
WHEREAS, the benefits associated with a community center are numerous and
contribute to the well-being, health and quality of life for Lakeville area residents; and
WHEREAS, the need for additional athletic facilities is great and will continue to
increase as residential development continues; and
WHEREAS, the opportunity exists to explore partnerships with School Districts 192,
194 and 196 that could meet. both school athletic facility needs and similar community needs and
result in long-term favorable financial benefits; and
WHEREAS, the site is located in close proximity to several major public facilities, i.e.
Century Junior High, Lakeville Water Treatment Facility, Eastview Elementary School and King
Park Baseball Complex, making the compatibility of the surrounding land use appropriate; and
WHEREAS, Decision Resources, LTD conducted acommunity-wide survey which
indicated a 70% to 21 % margin whereby residents supported the construction of a community
center in Lakeville.. In fact 33% strongly supported the concept, and 69% of the sample were
either very supportive or somewhat supportive of a community center being developed through a
public/private partnership; and

WHEREAS, the City desires to obtain community input regarding the proposed Lakeville
Community Center.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Lakeville,
Minnesota:
1. An Ad Hoc Group shall be appointed by the City Council to provide the City
Council with input concerning the proposed community center.
2. The Mayor shall be the group facilitator.
3. The City Administrator and Parks and Recreation Director shall be the staff liaisons
to the group.
ADOPTED this 20~' day of January, 2004 by the City Council of the City of Lakeville,
Minnesota.
