HomeMy WebLinkAboutItem 04.bPARKS & RECREATION DEPARTMENT MONTHLY REPORT ARTS CENTER Tom Barnard OCTOBER, 2010 • The Wine Academy featured a craft beer tasting event on Wednesday, October 6. • The Minnesota Photography Club held its monthly meeting at the LAAC on Thursday, October 7. • Applause Community Theatre closed it production of Our Town on Sunday, October 10. • The Apple Valley and Lakeville Police Departments rented the LAAC classroom for a parenting class for five Sunday evenings ending October 17. • Giant Step Children's Theatre opened its show, Pinocchio, on Thursday, October 21. There were a total of 10 performances and the show closed on October 31. • Expressions Community Theater continued to rehearse Mind Over Mattthrough October. The production will play the second and third weekend of November. • The Glenn Quist art exhibit opened in the lobby gallery on Thursday, October 7. • Patchouli performed on Saturday, October 16. • The Minnesota Valley Photography Club held a special class /meeting on Thursday, October 21. • The Wine Academy Series started with the Rob Mondavi Birthday Bash on Wednesday, October 27. • The Lakeville employee charities drive kickoff was held in the theater on Wednesday, October 27. UPCOMING • Mind Over Matt by Expressions Community Theatre opens on November 12. • A Holiday Mixed Bag by Sisters Productions is offering two holiday show times on December 3. • The Holiday Art Sale and Empty Bowls Fundraiser is being held at the Arts Center on December 10 and 11. Everyone was in costume and the Red Hat chorus performed Halloween songs. • T -Shirts to Diapers — sewing circle members met with two members of Grace Lutheran Church to learn how to make diapers out of t -shirts for babies overseas. This will be the new sewing project, starting in November. • Eight seniors attended the Lakeville "Heart Restart" CPR program. This was the second session offered at the Senior Center. • Continuing programs are going well. The 500 card group and the pinochle group have each gained two more players. • Duplicate bridge continues to grow; there were eight tables of players last week. • Chair massages are going well. They are starting to catch on now; in the past they had been hard to sell. • Members are having a great time playing dime bingo on Wednesday afternoons. • Our exercise equipment is starting to get quite a bit of use, especially the treadmill. • 18 new members during this time period. Total membership is 1,030. Linda Walter UPCOMING • November 4 — Kids `n Kinship presentation to introduce members to the program and to recruit mentors for children ages 5 -16 for one to four hours per week. • November 12 — Veterans Day Presentation, Sallie Lieber will talk about her 1970 -1974 Air Force experience in Vietnam. She was a model, singer, dancer and stewardess, and has traveled to save the children and help build schools all over the world. • November 19 — Author Gordon Fredrickson will speak about his newest book, A Farm Country Thanksgiving.
