HomeMy WebLinkAboutItem 13December 16, 2010 Proposed Action Staff recommends adoption of the following motion: Approval of the Resolution Amending the Vacation and PTO Leave Policies for Non Union Employees for 2011. Passage of this motion will result in providing a cash -out option to non - union employees whose health insurance premium is increasing in 2011. Overview In consideration for non -union employees at the city who will not receive a cost of living increase in 2011, staff recommends that employees be allowed to cash -out accrued vacation or PTO hours up to an amount that's directly equivalent to the employee's increase in health insurance premiums for 2011. Approval of this resolution will result in an estimated maximum cost of $45,000 and will be expended from the General Fund contingency account. Primary issues to Consider Why is this option only being offered to non -union employees? This option was provided to police officers and sergeants with approval of their contract settlement. A settlement agreement with the Teamsters public works employees has not yet been reached. Supporting Information See attached resolution. RESOLUTION AMENDING THE VACATION AND PTO LEAVE POLICIES FOR NON -UNION EMPLOYEES for 2011 WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Lakeville recognizes the impact health insurance premium increases have had on employees; and WHEREAS, there have been no cost of living increases for non -union employees for 2010 or 2011; NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the City Council agrees to amend the vacation and PTO policies for 2011 only to allow employees to cash out accrued vacation or PTO hours up to an amount that's directly equivalent to the employee's increase in health insurance premiums for 2011.
