SENIOR CENTER
DECEMBER, 2010
• Our Holiday Bazaar was successful Many people attended and we had a record number
of crafters renting tables.
• "Managing the Holidays with Alzheimer's" seminar — we co- hosted this event with
Walker's Highview Hills, St. John's Lutheran Church and Heritage Library. Ten people
attended and were pleased that we offered the seminar. The Red Hat Chorus
entertained the Alzheimer's patients while family members attended the seminar. We
plan to follow up with a support group.
• "Origin and Evolution of the Moon" was a seminar presented by one of our members
who worked for NASA before his retirement. It was well - attended and people were very
pleased with the presentation.
• Christmas Light Tour — always a popular trip! The seniors enjoyed viewing the lights in
Apple Valley, Inver Grove Heights, Rice Park and Mirror Park in St. Paul.
• "Deck the Halls" was a fun program. Along with Senior Center members, the Kenwood
Trail Middle School students who help with our monthly newsletter mailing also
attended. The "Dragonfly" folk singers started the program with folk and Christmas
songs. Then local author of children's books, Gordon Fredrickson, read his newest
award - winning book, A Farm Country Christmas Eve. Following the program, we had
cookies and hot chocolate, and "Santa" surprised the kids with a visit and treat bags of
fruit and peanuts.
• Both our Senior Chorus and Red Hat Chorus were out and about performing their
Christmas songs to the area's independent living, assisted living and nursing homes.
• The remainder of the month was quiet due to members preparing for the holidays.
• 14 new members during this time period. Total membership is 1,070.
