Overview
RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING THE SALE OF FORFEITED VEHICLE
Staff recommends adoption of the following motion: Move to approve Resolution Authorizing
the Sale of Forfeited Vehicle.
The 1997 Legislature made DWI enforcement more stringent by enabling cities to seize vehicles
that are involved in certain violations. The City currently has a high valued vehicle in storage
may be disposed of in accordance with Minnesota Statute Section 169.1217, Subd. 9.
The forfeited vehicle is a 2007 GMC Denali with an approximate $10,579 lien on it. Staff is
recommending the vehicle he sold on Craig's list to the highest responsible bidder; a minimum
bid of $23,000 will be established. If not sold on Craig's List, the vehicle will be sold at the State
of Minnesota auction in the spring.
Primary Issues to Consider
• Value of vehicles. The minimum bid was based on its estimated fair market value. There is
no commission if the vehicle is sold on Craig's List.
