Re: 16933 Glencoe Fire Chief Award of Merit
On Monday morning, May 9, 2011, at 7:38 a.m., the Lakeville Fire Department was
dispatched to a possible house fire at 16933 Glencoe Ave. The fire was reported by a
neighbor who had discovered the fire after a lightning strike.
The neighbor, Michael Peltier, went to the home which was on fire and knocked on the
door and rang the door bell. He was able to wake the homeowner to get the family out
of the house safely. The fire was above a child's bedroom where the child was sleeping
at the time.
Denise Peltier, Michael's mother, was able to get the attention of another neighbor -
Lynette Anderson -who called 911 and alerted Police and Fire of the house fire.
Lynette then went to assist Michael in alerting the homeowner and daughter to the fire
and getting them out of the house.
The team effort by these three neighbors in alerting the family and contacting the Police
and Fire Departments, spared the family of any injury but also got emergency services
to the scene quickly to extinguish the fire and limit the amount of damage done to the
home. The efforts made by neighbors were well worthy of a Chief's award of merit, but
are all the more impressive when you consider that Denise is deaf and her son Michael
has only partial hearing.
