Kyle Malin, who grew up in Lakeville, served three tours in Iraq and was deployed to Afghanistan in June, 2010. On July 14, while on patrol, Staff Sgt Malin was severely injured by an IED and lost both legs in the explosion. Kyle spent months recuperating at Walter Reed Hospital before being transferred to Fort Sam Houston to receive ongoing care and rehabilitation. Now, after many surgeries and months of rehabilitation, Kyle and his wife Alicia and two young sons will be returning home to Lakeville to visit his parents Deb and Jon. He has been chosen to raise the flag at the June 27 Twins game. In honor of his homecoming and the sacrifices that both Kyle and his family have made for our country, Lakeville Yellow Ribbon has requested that June 27 be named Kyle Malin Day in Lakeville. City of Lakeville Whereas : American veterans deserve our deepest appreciation and respect. Our Nation's servicemen and women serve with honor under the most difficult circumstances, and make sacrifices that most of us cannot begin to imagine, and Whereas: U.S. Army Staff Sgt. Malin and his wife Alicia and two young sons will be returning home to Lakeville to visit his parents Deb and Jon Malin, and Whereas: Staff Sgt. Malin has been chosen to raise the flag at the June 27 Minnesota Twins game, and Whereas: The City of Lakeville would like all of our residents to have the opportunity to honor the sacrifices made by Staff Sgt. Malin and his entire family, Now, therefore, on behalf of the entire City Council, I, Mark Bellows, Mayor of the City of Lakeville, do hereby proclaim Monday, June 27, 2011 as KYLE MALIN DAY. We invite everyone in the community to participate by flying the American flag or by displaying a yellow ribbon at their home or business on this day. This is one small way for Kyle's home community to extend our thanks to Staff Sgt. Malin and the entire Malin family for their sacrifices and to say, "Welcome home Kyle." Mayor Mark Bellows
