Proposed Action
Staff recommends the following motion: Move to name the former police station at
20110 Holyoke Avenue the "Heritage Center ".
Adoption of this motion will result in the naming of the facility for purposes of
identification.
Overview
Item No.
Renaming of the Former Police Station to Heritage Center
The City Council has approved the renovation of the former police station into a senior
center /historical society facility along with the Beyond the Yellow Ribbon initiative and
other potential uses.
The fundraising /PR committee recommended the name Heritage Center because it
reflects the area where the building is, which is near Heritage Commons and the
Heritage Library. The building is also on the corner of Heritage Drive and Holyoke
Avenue. In addition, the word heritage represents the traditions and beliefs that a
society considers important to its history and culture and are therefore passes from one
generation to another. The tradition of honoring our seniors, veterans, and our history
is part of our heritage and therefore seemed a fitting name for a building that will house
these groups.
Primary Issues to Consider
o How will the name change be used
The name will be used for all efforts at fundraising, facility design and ultimately
facility operations.
