Petree Operations & Maintenance Director Date: 30 August 2011 Item No. APPROVAL OF LIGHTING RETROFIT PROJECT CHANGE ORDERS NO. 1 and NO. 2 Proposed Action Staff recommends adoption of the following motion: Move to approve Lighting Retrofit Project Change Orders No. 1 and No. 2 increasing the contract sum in the amount of $2,412.95. Passage of this motion supports the installation of controls for the parking lot lights at the Water Treatment Facility. Overview The Lighting Retrofit Project includes the replacement of exterior building and parking lot lights at the Central Maintenance Facility (CMF), Water Treatment Facility (WTF), and Fire Station 4 with light emitting diodes (LED). The objective of the project is to reduce energy consumption at these facilities, test the effectiveness of LED technology for City applications, and correct parking lot Tight maintenance concerns at the CMF. The project is funded by the Energy Efficiency and Conservation Block Grant Program sponsored by the Department of Energy. Change Order No. 1 allows the installation of an astronomic clock to synchronize turning on and off the parking lot lights at the WTF. The new controls compute sunset and sunrise for the local area and turn the lights on and off accordingly. Change Order No. 2 allows for the fabrication of backing plates above the bi -fold doors at Fire Station 4 necessary to mount the lights. Items contained in these change orders result in an overall increase to the contract of $2,412.95. Staff has reviewed the change order and recommends its approval. Primary Issues to Consider • Items supplied under this change order result in more accurate control of the lights.
