Proposed Action
Staff recommends adoption of the following motion: Approve resolution authorizing
temporary closing of Holyoke Avenue from 207 Street to 210 Street for a Lakeville
North and South High Schools Homecoming Parade.
Passage of this motion will allow the temporary closure of a portion of Holyoke Avenue
in downtown Lakeville for a homecoming parade sponsored by the Downtown Lakeville
Business Association (DLBA).
Overview
RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING TEMPORARY CLOSING
OF HOLYOKE AVENUE FOR THE DOWNTOWN
LAKEVILLE BUSINESS ASSOCIATION
The Downtown Lakeville Business Association is requesting the closure of Holyoke
Avenue from 207 Street to 210 Street on September 15 for a homecoming parade.
The street will be closed from 5:30 p.m. to approximately 7:30 p.m. The parade will
take place from 6:00 p.m. to 6:45 p.m. Units will assemble in the Lakeville Area Arts
Center parking lot. The parade will feature marching bands, football teams and dance
line teams from north and south high schools, students and alumni. Entertainment and
refreshments will be offered after the parade in Market Plaza.
Primary Issues to Consider
What impact will the street closure have on businesses and motorists? Is there a
financial impact to the City?
The DLBA is coordinating this event with all downtown businesses. Traffic will be re-
routed at 207 Street and 210 Street by police reserve officers. The DLBA has agreed
to reimburse the City for street department staff overtime.
